Receipts can print two ways: the browser print dialog (works everywhere, no setup) or automatic thermal printing (no dialog — the receipt shoots out after each sale). Most issues are in the thermal path.

First: what does the POS say?

When thermal printing is on but unreachable, the POS shows an amber "Thermal printer offline" banner across the top. Click Fix (or the printer icon in the header / More → Printer setup) to open printer setup.

Set up a thermal printer on a PC

  1. In the POS, open Printer setup (printer icon in the header).
  2. Check Print service at the top:
    • "Desktop app — built-in print support" — you're on the desktop app, skip to step 4.
    • "Print service not detected" — click Download Print Service, install it once, and let it start with Windows. If the browser asks permission to access devices on your local network, allow it — that's how the page reaches the service.
  3. Wait a few seconds — the status should flip to Connected — paired (refresh with the arrow if it doesn't).
  4. Pick your printer from the detected list, or type it yourself:
    • a printer name (e.g. Black Copper BC-85AC),
    • a COM port (e.g. COM3),
    • a share path (\\PC\Share) or network address (192.168.1.50:9100).
  5. Turn on Auto-print receipts on this PC.
  6. Click Test print — a test receipt should come out immediately.

Tip: The printer choice is stored per PC, so each counter can use its own printer without touching the store defaults. Reset to store default clears the override.

Still nothing?

  • Printer name not in the list — a yellow note means the name doesn't match a detected printer: check power/USB, then look at the exact printer name in Windows settings.
  • Test print works but sales don't print — auto-print is off on this PC, or a store default is overriding it in Settings → Receipt.
  • Network printers — the PC must reach the printer's IP on port 9100; restart the printer and router if the IP changed.
  • Paper — sounds obvious, but an open cover or an empty roll is the most common cause.

If all else fails, receipts still work through the browser print dialog — sales are never blocked by a printer problem.
