Suppliers → Import (/admin/suppliers/import) loads a whole supplier list from one file — CSV, XLSX or XLS. Each row is one supplier; the flow mirrors product import: download the template, fill it, upload, review the preview, import.
The columns
| Column | Notes |
|---|---|
code | Optional supplier code — the first match key |
name | Required — flagged when blank |
contact_person, phone, email | Optional contact details |
address, city | Optional |
tax_number | Optional — NTN/STRN |
payment_terms | Free text — e.g. Net 30 |
opening_balance | Currency units — posts a payable journal automatically |
is_active | true/false — defaults to true |
notes | Free text |
Headers normalise case and spaces, so Contact Person and contact_person both land.
Match, don't duplicate
Rows match existing suppliers by code, then by name — matches are updated, the rest created. Re-running a corrected file is safe: it refreshes the same suppliers instead of doubling them.
Validation before import:
nameblank → flaggedopening_balancenegative or non-numeric → flagged- The same
codetwice in the file → all those rows flagged
The result reports created / updated / failed — re-import only the failed rows after fixing them.
Note: An opening_balance becomes a real payable in the ledger — it's the amount you already owe that supplier on day one, not a payment to them.
