Customers is the admin list of everyone the store knows — counter regulars, credit (udhaar) customers and online buyers alike.

The list

  • Search by name or email; the KPI cards up top show total customers, new this week, total spent, outstanding balances and total orders.
  • Each row shows orders, total spent, credit limit, outstanding, last order and joined date.
  • Click a customer's credit limit to edit it inline (permission-gated) — the till then warns or blocks sales past it, per customers & credit.
  • The pencil icon edits contact details; the envelope mails them.

A customer's balance

The outstanding column is what they owe — sales on credit add to it, payments and store-credit refunds move it back down. The full credit workflow (limits, collecting, statements) lives in customers & credit.

Bulk import

Import (top of the page, permission-gated) opens /admin/customers/import — upload a CSV or Excel file, one customer per row. The same mapping pattern as product import applies: download the template first, review the parsed preview, fix flagged rows.

ColumnNotes
first_name / last_name (or name)A name is required — either split or full
emailValidated format — generate one from the phone number if blank
phoneEmail or phone is required — rows with neither are flagged
address, cityOptional
opening_balanceCurrency units (e.g. 2500) — posts a receivable journal
credit_limitCurrency units — the customer's max credit

Rows are matched by email, then phone — matches update the existing customer, the rest are created. Duplicate email/phone within the file itself is flagged before import.

Tip: Import before launch, not after — an opening_balance on each row builds the receivables ledger correctly from day one instead of a pile of manual adjustments.
